Lady A Concert

I won tickets off my favorite radio station 93Q again! This time, it was tickets for Lady Antebellum concert.

I have always LOVED the song “need you now”, especially the line where it goes: I’d rather hurt than feel nothing at all, that’s me. All-in or nothing. Granted I have been hurt, used, but I know I will have my happy cozy place I will finally call home.

For the first time, I was screaming at the top of my lungs at a concert, singing along, like a high school girl. It felt great to lose control for a bit (probably lost my voice a bit too).

I just know the one who deserves me will be right there waiting for me.

Children’s Book

Book reading time tonight, we read a new book my daughter borrowed from her library. She was super excited about this book, because it has a spooky name – Blackout. She thought it’s some sort of Halloween scary book, perfect choice for Halloween.

So, as usual, we snuggled on the couch, pillows and blankets ready.

The book barely had any words, I was hoping for a bit more, since my daughter is in the phase of spelling and reading crazy, more words would help her. But here is the story, which hit me more than anyone else.

A family of 4 live in an apartment in a big city, mom, dad, big sister and little sister. One night, little sister wants to play a board game, but everyone is busy, no one wants to play. All of a sudden, the light goes out, the entire city is pitch black (hence, the name of the book is Blackout, ohhhhh). Mom brings the flash light, but no one can continue with what they are doing but sit down at the table all together. Soon it becomes too hot to stay inside, so they go to the roof top, where they find all the neighbors on the roof. It become a roof top party. Then everyone goes onto the street and there is another party. Light comes back on, everyone goes back into their house and continue with what they are doing before light goes out. Again, no one is playing with little sister. She goes and turns off the light switch, pretends it’s a blackout again, her family sits down at the table plays the board game she wants to play at the beginning of the book.

Kids were happy reading this book, I had a lot of feelings about it. It’s so sad reading this book, but the real sad part is, this is so real. A lot of us, me included, are so swamped between work, daily chores, adult responsibilities that we feel they have to be done, everything has a deadline, and quite often, we drag it out to the very end. Just like everyone else, I feel overwhelmed too, and I do realize I have to tell kids, mommy will play with you after putting all the dishes away, give me a few minutes, let me finish cooking. No, mommy have to go to work now, I will play with you after work…Granted, we just can’t play with kids whenever they want to, that’s just reality, but we certainly can think twice, if whatever the task we were swamped with has to be done at this very moment.

This morning I am still thinking about it, it hurts me to see the disappointment in my kids’ eyes when I tell them I can’t play or draw with them… Gonna keep reminding myself, some things can wait, my kids will never be this age again.

Life Goes on

After the major move, my fig trees (or more appropriately, I should call them my parents’ fig trees, since now they are the ones mainly taking care of them) went through a really terrible phase of life. At one point I thought the move, the new environment, the lack of sun light due to large mature trees everywhere, the heavy rains and the drastic temperature drop for a couple of weeks killed these delicate trees.

But, the sun came back peeking through the leaves this past weekend, guess what I found? What a wonderful surprise? Life goes on, the rain, the cold, the new environment, the lack of sunlight may knock us down temporarily, but we can bounce back, always.

May the Odds be Ever in Your Favor

Hunger Game time!

I went to one of the meet up groups this past weekend, and shot some compound bow. Weather was nice, cool, slightly breezy, may or may not helped my aim. Nice grouping, that’s what I was told by the organizer Jennifer. I will take that any day, considering I am still half handicapped with my left wrist, I am pretty proud of myself.

It felt great having some fun, making new friends. You should try it some time too.

Pool League Recruit

I am not a professional pool player by any means, not a dark horse either, simply a newbie, trying to have some fun. From time to time, I can shoot an awesome combo, or a bank shot, which would surprise myself, but quite often, I will mess up the easiest shots, because my right arm is not steady enough yet.

Funny thing the other night, when I went with my pool league friends to have some fun watching the pros play, I played a couple of game prior to the league game started. The opponent team captain came to me and insisted to ask me to play with them because they were one player short.

If I said no, their team will forfeit and have 0 points recorded for the night. Reluctantly, I said yes, so a newbie like me had to play against my friends all night. The result? You can imagine, I lost all the way around, but, I made average 4, maybe 5 balls per game. I am still pretty darn proud of myself!

At the end of the night, the captain of the team I played for pushed really hard to recruit me to join her team permanently. I was so flattered. I declined their offer in the end, but I will keep practicing, you never know, I may become next Xiaoting Pan one day 🙂

Big Z’s Hair Cut, Big J’s Trim

It’s hair cut time again, especially for my big boy Z. I have been cutting his hair in the backyard the entire time, but this time, with all the moves, I can’t access the hair trimmer easily, I took him to a hair cut place. It’s officially his first time, even though he did go once when he was around 1, he did not really let the hair cut to complete, so that doesn’t count.

Big Z is my super happy, super sweet big boy, couldn’t stop giggling, because the hair trimmer was tickling his neck and ears.

Big sister had a regular hair trim. You guessed it, I normally do her hair trim as well, at home. But why not, I’d love her to have some professional service too.

Just in time for school pictures next week too! Can’t wait to see those pictures!

First 3 Teeth

Yep, my daughter lost her first 3 teeth today. Not naturally, but they had to be pulled out by the dentist.

These are some teeth with giant roots. Yes, she was in a lot of pain, she was crying a lot, bleeding a lot, angry a lot, coming out of sedation. I can’t find the right word to describe how terrible I felt, as a mother, I couldn’t comfort my suffering child, I felt beyond helpless, I just want to take on all the pain for her, only if I could…

That was a very painfully long duration of 4 hours, before she fully shook off the drug effect. I got my sweet baby girl back again! We took a nap, we played her favorite game monopoly, we read books, ate and took medication, and went to pick up baby brother.

A couple of bowling games later, we celebrated with yummy dinner. Final picture taken, smiley faces with her first 3 lost teeth. She went to bed, super excited to see what Tooth Fairy will bring her tonight.

Sweet dreams my little angel, mommy will always love you and be there for you, no matter what.

Senior Moment

Walking towards my car after work. I looked around the corner where I parked my car, my heart almost skipped a beat! The driver side rear of my car is severely scratched and dented! Black scratch marks all over the car, above the back wheels…

OMG! My car was parked here all day, how on earth did this happen?

I quickly walked towards my car and started examine the damage..I looked and looked, for a good 10 seconds, slowly towards the back of my car…. just to realize the car next to this one is mine…same make, different model….

Major senior moment! Well, at least the cars are the same color… got into my own car as quickly as I could, started dying laughing.

First Day Back to Work

It’s been a super busy and stressful summer, my blood pressure is through the roof, that’s what my wrist surgeon’s nurse has been telling me, every time I went back for a post surgery visit.

Life is interesting, it really is.  When you think life is wonderful, you got literally everything you dreamed of, you never know what’s around the corner waiting for you. You can lose everything you ever had, quite literally, in a blink of an eye. When you think you are at the rock bottom of your life, there is opportunity everywhere, if you just open your eyes, you will notice everything you never noticed before, loving caring friends, who want to help you everywhere they can.

Today, I went to work, after months. It’s a bit bitter-sweet. I am back to the company I worked for over a decade ago. I saw a lot of familiar faces, people took their time came by my seat to say hi and welcome back. Just before my meeting, my new boss told me: “you know, the day after your interview, several people came to me confirming if you came. Let me just say, I got this feeling if I didn’t hire you, I would be a very bad person.”

That meant so much for me. I don’t know who said what to whom, but how welcoming everyone was, it really made my day, not a bad first day back to work for me.

Earn It

One day, I was driving my kids somewhere, and my daughter saw a lady begging for money in the median. She asked, mommy, what is that lady doing? I replied, she is begging for money.

My daughter then asked why? She can work and make money, right? I looked over, the lady holding the sign was perfectly healthy looking, not thin, not big, got all her limbs, walking up and down the median with no difficulty. She is in her late 20’s or early 30’s. I was a little surprised about my daughter’s response, but quite proud of her.

Yes, I teach my kids, everyone should work for whatever they want. Nothing in life comes free, you want something, you need to earn it. Not hoping someone will give it to you, not ask for something because we think we are entitled to it.

Anyway, just a proud mama moment.
